During the Guangzhou Auto Show that opened today, BMW’s new generation 5 Series and pure electric i5 models were officially unveiled. The new cars have an extended wheelbase for the Chinese market and a variety of “exclusive” configurations.
The new generation 5 Series and i5 still inherit BMW’s “excellent tradition” of lengthening the wheelbase and body in the Chinese market, and BMW’s latest design language is used throughout the body. At the same time, the car still offers two appearance parts: the luxury package and the sports-oriented M package.
In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new generation 5 Series/i5 are 5175/1900/1520mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3105mm.
The interior of the car also has significant changes compared to the old 5 Series models. The original iconic “chicken leg” gear lever has now been replaced by a paddle shift mechanism next to the knob. The central control area is equipped with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument and a 14.9-inch touch screen, and is equipped with Bowers & Wilkins surround sound. system and four-zone automatic air conditioning that can be independently controlled for the rear seats.
The car also has a number of exclusive configurations and designs for the Chinese market, including a 31-inch floating giant screen at the top of the rear seat. This entertainment screen has an 8K resolution and supports real-time interconnection. The overall design style and configuration are closer to the new generation 7 Series.
In terms of power, the fuel version of the 5 Series is expected to be equipped with a 2.0T engine and a 48V mild hybrid system, with a maximum power of 190kW and a maximum torque of 400N·m. As for the pure electric i5 model, referring to previous reports, the declaration information of the single-motor model shows that its maximum power is 250kW.
In addition, the i5 M60 xDrive model will be equipped with a dual-motor four-wheel drive system with a maximum power of 601 horsepower, a peak torque of 820 Nm, and an acceleration time of 0-100 seconds in 3.8 seconds.
