The pure electric version of the BMW X1, the iX1, will not be launched in the United States, and such crossover models will only be available in the European and Chinese markets.

BMW released the third-generation BMW X1 in June this year, and also released the pure electric version of the X1, the BMW iX1.

The BMW iX1 xDrive 30 is equipped with two motors, capable of 313 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque, and is equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of 64.7kWh. 385,500 RMB), a cheaper FWD version is expected to launch in 2023.

According to reports, both the BMW iX1 and the third-generation X1 are produced at BMW’s Regensburg plant.

At first, many expected the iX1 to be sold in the U.S., as the ICE counterpart has been sold in the U.S. since 2012. However, according to Car Scoops, a BMW executive said “the only model currently planned for the U.S. is the X1 xDrive28i.”

Additionally, BMW Blog recently published a report that killed all hope for US users waiting for the iX1:

“Unfortunately, BMW USA has decided that the iX1 is not needed, as the compact crossover will only be sold here in the combustion engine version.”

A follow-up report further emphasized this point:

“While we launched the regular X1 in the U.S. market, the electric version will remain on the other side of the Atlantic.”
