Elon Musk is reportedly planning to charge Blue Verified users $20 a month to keep their Blue Verified. Users who get blue certification are celebrities, politicians, journalists and other public figures with real accounts.
In response, famed author Stephen King said he would leave Twitter if the plan ever got off the ground.
Elon Musk then responded in a post on Twitter today, saying, “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter can’t be totally dependent on advertisers. how about $8?”
He also said that he would explain the rationale for doing so in a longer form before implementing it. Elon Musk believes that this is the only way to beat the bots and spammers.
