Bill Gates: ChatGPT’s history is as significant as the birth of the PC or the Internet

According to reports, the artificial intelligence writing and chatting tool ChatGPT recently on the Internet is a hot mess, which sparked the attention of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Bill Gates said that the emergence of this artificial intelligence technology is as historically significant as the birth of the Internet and the personal computer.

Gates said that in 2023, artificial intelligence will be the most talked about hot plate, a phenomenon that he personally believes makes perfect sense.

According to Gates, the emergence of new artificial intelligence technologies, including chatbots, is as important as the emergence of the personal computer and the Internet.

In the 1980s, mankind began to enter the era of the personal computer, and Gates played a very important role. Before Microsoft and Apple started to enter the personal computer market, computers were still only luxury products that could only be used by large corporations, government agencies and universities, and were considered by the outside world to be high-tech equipment and not for ordinary consumers.

In Gates’ view, AI technology is no less important than personal computers in terms of the impact it has on society.

ChatGPT, an AI writing and chat tool that has recently exploded in popularity collects data from millions of websites around the world and is able to answer users’ questions or write articles in a clear, conversational manner. This tool is useful for article writing, software coding and more, demonstrating the power of AI chatbots to the public. This technology will also have a huge impact on the global workforce.

Of course, ChatGPT’s technology is not perfect, and sometimes the chatbot is unable to identify false information and often gives wrong answers.

A recent UBS research report noted that the ChatGPT website has set a new world record in terms of user size growth. According to the report, ChatGPT’s monthly active user base grew to 100 million in January of this year, just two months after the site went live. Its user growth is already faster than that of global short-form video juggernaut TikTok.

ChatGPT’s developer is OpenAI, which focuses on artificial intelligence technology, and in 2019, Microsoft had invested $1 billion in the company. This investment partnership also gave Microsoft exclusive access to certain exclusive technology licenses from each other.

In January, Microsoft announced that it would be making a “multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment” in OpenAI. A leading U.S. financial media outlet reported that Microsoft’s investment could be $10 billion this time around.

ChatGPT stood out, and it wasn’t just Gates who took notice. Late last year, Google sent out an “alert message” about the novel product. On November 30 of last year, when the latest version of ChatGPT went live in service, Google realized that the AI chat product would pose a threat to Google’s core search engine, according to a leading U.S. media report, and it subsequently held several meetings to discuss strategies for Google’s AI business, with Google CEO Pichai and executives from parent company Alphabet in attendance.

To deal with the emergency, Google management reportedly even invited Google’s two co-founders (Page and Brin) to discuss countermeasures together.

A U.S. tech media outlet reported that Microsoft plans to use the technology behind ChatGPT to power its own search engine, Bing.

Historically, Gates has not been a big fan of the OpenAI company. When Microsoft first decided to invest in OpenAI, Gates reportedly even questioned the company’s technology prospects.

The source said that before Microsoft made the investment decision, Gates studied OpenAI’s artificial intelligence technology very carefully, and his concern was whether the artificial intelligence could really understand the content of human language communication based on a high degree of “context”.
