Bigscreen Beyond the lightest and smallest VR headset started shipping

The world’s lightest and smallest VR headset Bigscreen Beyond has begun to ship to the United States of America’s pre-order customers, this is an ultra-lightweight and ultra-small SteamVR headset designed for a long-time PC virtual reality experience and customized according to the user’s 3D face scan.

The Bigscreen Beyond weighs just 127 grams, is 143 millimeters long and 52 millimeters thick, and fits in the palm of your hand. It uses pancake lenses like the Meta Quest Pro and is backed by a pair of MicroOLED displays with a total resolution of 5,120 x 2,560, or 2,560 x 2,560 monocular, and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz.

Bigscreen Beyond is priced at $1,000 (currently about RMB 7,280) or $32 per month (currently about RMB 233), but doesn’t come with a position-tracking base station or a joystick. The headset uses the SteamVR tracking system, so users will need at least one base station, preferably two or more, as well as their own input device, such as a Valve Index joystick.

The best part about the Beyond is that it’s customizable; when users order the device, the system asks for a 3D facial scan to be submitted so that the headset can be customized to the shape of the user’s head and IPD (Pupil Pitch Distance), which ensures the best possible wearable fit, but there’s no way to adjust the IPD after the fact, and so it can’t be shared with anyone else unless they have the exact same eyes as you do.

Bigscreen Beyond is also now accepting orders from 13 new countries including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. These countries are in addition to the original supported countries, which include the United States, the United Kingdom, “most of Europe,” Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

In early June, Bigscreen announced last-minute improvements to the lenses that widened the FOV field of view, increased center angle resolution, improved clarity and sweet spot, and reduced visual artifacts such as blur.

Bigscreen says it will ship tens of thousands of headsets in the coming months, and that international shipments will begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Additionally, the audio band accessory remains on track for a Q4 launch and more details will be announced later this month.
