Baidu: The first batch to be approved to carry out fully unmanned autonomous driving tests

According to Baidu’s official news, Baidu’s “Carrot Run” was among the first to be approved to carry out fully unmanned autonomous driving tests in Beijing. After the scale of commercialized driving operations has expanded, the fully unmanned driving territory has rapidly expanded again. So far, Baidu’s self-driving travel service platform Luobokuaipao has fully unmanned self-driving fleets in Beijing, Wuhan, and Chongqing. It is the first company to carry out fully unmanned self-driving operations and tests in multiple cities across the country. Covering a total area of over 100 square kilometers.

It is reported that Baidu’s “Carrot Run” invested a total of 10 fully unmanned autonomous driving vehicles, and carried out fully unmanned autonomous driving tests within the designated time and route in the Beijing Development Zone. Baidu said that in 2023, Baidu Apollo will continue to expand its business scale, and plans to gradually increase the deployment of 200 fully unmanned operating vehicles across the country, striving to build the world’s largest unmanned operating service area.

Beijing is one of the most active cities in the world for autonomous driving technology innovation and entrepreneurship. The development of the intelligent networked automobile industry is an important part of Beijing’s efforts to build a global technological innovation center. In September 2020, Beijing officially established the world’s first networked cloud-controlled high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone. The demonstration zone coordinates various high-quality element resources such as “vehicles, roads, clouds, networks, and maps”, aiming at the large-scale operation of high-level autonomous vehicles above L4. In April 2021, the country’s first pilot zone with management policy innovation as the core was established, and a “2+5+N” intelligent networked vehicle management policy system was systematically constructed. Through the construction of demonstration zones and pilot zones, the independent security and controllability of the industrial chain can be effectively strengthened, and the formation of industrial agglomeration effects can be promoted. Up to now, more than 600 self-driving vehicles have been deployed, and the cumulative test mileage has exceeded 10 million kilometers.
