August Steam hardware and software report, Linux system accounted for another increase

According to Valve’s latest Steam hardware and software report for August, Linux devices have increased slightly as a percentage of the overall market share. Compared to 1.23% in July, Linux systems accounted for 1.27% in August, an increase of 0.04 percentage points. This compares to 1.02% for Linux systems in the same month last year, an increase of 0.25 percentage points.

In percentage terms, this is certainly a big improvement, and the absolute numbers are likely to improve significantly as Steam’s overall market share continues to grow globally.

Of course, the upward trend in Steam on Linux market share this year is due in large part to more gamers getting access to Linux-based Steam Deck. Valve continues to do a great job of increasing Steam deck production and delivering it to pre-order customers. Steam Play (Proton + DXVK / VKD3D-Proton) has also helped with the number of Linux games, and it continues to mature nicely and allow many modern Windows games to now run gracefully on Linux.
