The U.S. New York City police recently issued a reminder that at least 21 cases of AirPods Max robbery have occurred recently, reminding New York users not to wear Apple headphones outdoors as much as possible.
According to the report, New York City police received the first case of robbery on Jan. 28, in which a group of four people, usually two on a moped, passed by the victim and quickly took off the user’s AirPods Max, then sped away.
New York City police said the cases occurred throughout Manhattan, including one incident in Central Park, and the victims ranged in age from 18 to 41 years old. Most of the thefts occurred between mid-to-late afternoon, with five AirPods Max has stolen on Feb. 8 and eight stolen on Feb. 18.
The thieves are still at large, and police have not yet apprehended the suspects. Apple AirPods Max is currently priced at $549 in the U.S. (currently about RMB 3,816) and RMB 3,999 on China’s official website.
