ASUS ROG Phone 6D series launched with Dimensity 9000 SoC; specifications, price

A few weeks ago we got information that the ASUS ROG Phone 6D series will launch with a MediaTek Dimensity flagship processor now it is available. The company held the launch event of this new MediaTek Dimensity gaming series, where two devices became official. They will both go on to battle for a place in the AnTuTu ranking for high-performance devices.

Already, the ASUS ROG flagship gaming series launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors. But the company is giving MediaTek a shot at the gaming industry by using their flagship chips on the new gaming series. This might be a trend that ASUS will keep for other flagship gaming smartphones it will launch in the future.

As we mentioned earlier, this new series holds two gaming devices, the ROG Phone 6D and the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. Both smartphones in this series max out memory performance by making use of 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. ASUS also gives the MediaTek Dimensity processor the room to perform better by adding a built-in cooling system, so, overheating isn’t a problem.

Specifications on both devices are the same, except the Ultimate version comes with more storage. Another notable difference will be in their design, which we will touch on in a bit. In the meantime, here is what ASUS has in store for us with its new gaming devices.

  • Screen: 6.78-inch OLED HDR10+ screen with 165Hz refresh rate.
  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 9000+.
  • Storage: 16GB/256GB (for the ASUS ROG Phone 6D) and 16GB/512GB (for the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate).
  • Main Camera: Triple setup with a 50MP main camera, 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera.
  • Front Camera: 12MP front-facing camera.
  • Battery: 6000mAh battery with 65W fast charge.
  • Operating System: Android 12 with some gaming customizations unique to ASUS gaming smartphones.
  • Biometrics: Under display optical fingerprint sensor.

So, in terms of specifications, both devices come with different storage capacities. Other differences that help both devices stand out from one another are their design patterns. Both devices come with ASUS’ signature RGB screen on the back, but the positioning and size are different on both devices.

Both entries come with the gaming accessories that ASUS provides with their gaming devices. These include an Areoactive cooler which latches to the back of the device, supporting the Areoactive portal found on only the Ultimate. The cooler can be used on either device, but the Ultimate will cool twice as much as the ROG Phone 6D.

One might immediately write these devices off as being expensive due to their core gaming features. But the manufacturer did find a sweet spot to fix the pricing of the two devices in this series. On both devices, there is only one colour option, Space Grey.

The price of the ROG Phone 6D sits at $911 as it comes with 16GB/256GB storage. The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate will retail for a bit more than the latter at $1,367 with its 16GB/512GB storage. Either device can be bought along with the company’s gaming accessory for extra cash.

The new MediaTek Dimensity ASUS gaming flagship device will go head-to-head with other devices in the smartphone gaming industry. For a start, they have a downside in memory capacity in comparison with the ROG Phone 6 series, which comes with 18GB of RAM on the Pro model. But we will wait to see how these new entries will perform once they become available for purchase in the global market.
