ASUS officially announces recall of 10,000 Z690 Hero motherboards in the U.S.

According to DigiTimes reported in June this year, Asus has lowered its annual sales forecast for motherboards by 24% due to not being optimistic about the motherboard market in the second half of this year. In addition to the shrinking motherboard market in the future, ASUS also has to face the problem of the motherboards that were once on sale.

At the end of October last year, Intel released its 12th generation Core chips, followed by ASUS in November last year with the release of the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard. In January this year, a video blogger discovered that one of the capacitors on the motherboard was soldered incorrectly and that ASUS had installed it backward. After ASUS discovered the issue, it promised to work with government agencies on a replacement program.

Today, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and ASUS have finally officially announced a recall of the faulty motherboards. The announcement from the CPSC shows that about 10,000 motherboards need to be recalled, and the serial numbers of these faulty motherboards start with MA, MB and MC. The serial numbers can be found on the label next to the 24-pin ATX power connector if the user has kept the motherboard in the box.

In addition, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been 10 reports of overheated melted motherboards, but the good news is that no one was injured. At this time, ASUS does not have a web page online for recalling the motherboard, so users may need to go through customer service to deal with the issue.

ASUS had announced a recall of the faulty ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard in December last year. At the same time, ASUS determined that there was a problem with one of the motherboard’s production lines, while all ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards sold in China were unaffected.
