According to a previous report by Android Authority, Asus’ technical support team informed a customer that unlocking the bootloader on the Zenfone is no longer available and will not be possible in the future. The customer’s inquiry was specifically about unlocking the Zenfone 9. Asus’ support team made it clear in the email that unlocking doesn’t work on the Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10.
In this regard, reliable Android whistleblower Mishaal Rahman posted an X post saying that the official technical team’s statement was wrong. He asked an ASUS PR contact and got the following statement: “The reply from the service team misunderstood the situation. The unlock tool is Currently unavailable, but we allow unlocking, stay tuned.”
According to Mishaal Rahman, users were unable to unlock the bootloader of Asus phones back in early May, when it was said that the unlocking tool service was going into “maintenance”. For users who want to root or flash their phones, this tool is essential, so it has caused a lot of concern, and I hope it can be launched again as soon as possible.
It is found that the Android Authority report has been 404 (deleted), and the support team reply post on ASUS official website has disappeared.
