ARM has announced two new ARMV9 CPUs that will be used for the 2023 flagship SOC. The new Cortex-X3, and Cortex-A715. Not forget to mention that Cortex-A510 is refreshed as well. Further details are explained below.

Cortex-X3 brings the ultimate performance to mobile devices

Cortex-X3 in-depth.

The 3rd-gen of the Cortex-X series, Cortex-X3. It brings an upgrade to the mobile performance at 25% (which can be achieved when it is on a 3nm node process)

Overall peak performance increased by 22% and 11% IPC(Instructions per cycle) uplift. The Cortex-X3 is designed for even better gaming performance compared to Cortex-X2 in any of the ISO processes. If we compared Apple M1 and M2, it could be still behind the competition although by a lesser margin.

For computing performance, Cortex-X3 gains a performance rise of 34%, which equals Intel 12th gen i7-1260P.

It also comes with DSU support for up to 12-cores and 16M L3 cache which enable scalability across desktops, notebooks, smartphones, DTV, and beyond. It also offers more cores with the updated DSU-110(Dynamic Shared Unit) and the latest ISA features that are optimized for 64-bit, while the 32-bit is no longer utilized.

Cortex-A715 offers a balance between performance and efficiency

Cortex-A715 in-depth

For the Cortex-A715, it offers a real upgrade which offers a perfect balance of performance and efficiency with increase of efficiency by 20%, and 5% performance uplift, surpassing A710.

The improvement included are branch prediction accuracy and data prefetching. Which is said through consistent IPC gain, this could match or even surpass the performance of 2 years-old Cortex-X1.

The upgrades offered for the efficient performance makes the CPU cluster powerhouse of the big.LITTLE CPU cluster.

Cortex-A510 gains efficiency upgrade

Cortex-A510 performance chart

ARM Cortex-A510 is refreshed where it gains an efficiency upgrade at 5%, which will be offering slightly better battery life for next-year smartphone.

The architectures will be available at the upcoming chipset from Mediatek 9100(Tentative naming), Samsung Exynos 2300, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. All of them will be available at 2023 high end flagship smartphone
