Apple’s US lobbying efforts to avoid antitrust investigations and other issues

Apple spends a lot of money each year lobbying U.S. officials to avoid restrictions on antitrust, online privacy, taxes, content restrictions, climate change and many other issues, as well as lobbying for policies that will benefit the company’s growth and reduce the risks associated with them by building good political and corporate relationships.

The latest figures show that Apple spent more money on lobbying this past 2022, spending a total of $9.4 million (currently about RMB 63.372 million) last year, a 44 percent increase over 2021 and a new record for the company’s lobbying efforts.

Apple will spend $6.5 million (currently about RMB 44.47 million) on lobbying policymakers in 2021 and $6.7 million (currently about RMB 45.426 million) in 2020. But Apple’s lobbying spending is still lower than Microsoft’s and Google’s, with the two spending $9.8 million (currently about RMB 66.444 million) and $10.9 million (currently about RMB 73.992 million) respectively in 2022.

Amazon tops the list with $19.7 million (currently about RMB 134 million) in lobbying investment, while Meta comes in second with $19.2 million (currently about RMB 130 million). Compared to 2021, Amazon’s spending has increased by around 2%, while Meta’s has decreased by 4.6%.

In total, the five tech giants spent nearly $69 million (currently about RMB 468 million) lobbying the federal government last year, a 5% increase over 2021.
