Apple is expected to release the third generation of Apple Pencil this week, the biggest highlight is the introduction of replaceable magnetic nibs, to further enrich the user’s drawing experience.
The second-generation Apple Pencil was released on October 30, 2018, with only one non-magnetic tip that can be replaced. The second-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches to the 2018 and later iPad Pro, the 2020 and later iPad Air, and the latest iPad mini, and is priced at $999 in China.
Design:
According to news shared by Japanese blog Mac Otakara, Apple’s third-generation Apple Pencil won’t see much adjustment in terms of appearance, and will basically follow the design of the second-generation Apple Pencil.
News about the third-generation Apple Pencil leaked out back in 2021, with the news claiming that it would be shorter and have a smoother, rounder surface.
Magnetic Nibs
The latest news is that the third-generation Apple Pencil will come with three different sizes of magnetically attachable nibs, offering more input options depending on the user’s drawing needs.
Majin Bu says the new nibs can be magnetically inserted into the Apple Pencil, which will make the process of swapping between nibs much more seamless — though it’s unclear how Apple will prevent nibs from being easily lost.
Colors:
Sources say the third-generation Apple Pencil will come in both white and black. this news dates back as far as 2020, and this news could not be confirmed.
USB-C port
Apple’s new Apple Pencil may switch to a USB-C port for all iPads.
