According to previous reports, the bezels of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be much narrower than their predecessors, and multiple different CAD drawings obtained by 9to5Mac have been able to let us intuitively see these changes.
Now Bloomberg has provided more details about these changes and hints that this may also apply to the new iPads.
In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claims that Apple will shrink the bezel size of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max from 2.2 mm to 1.5 mm.
It is reported that Apple will use a technology called low-pressure injection molding (LIPO) on the iPhone to achieve this goal, which was previously used on the Apple Watch. After bringing LIPO technology to the iPhone, Apple also hopes to bring the feature to the iPad, Gurman said. The report explains:
This year, the two biggest changes to the 15 series will bring Apple closer to the iPhone of its dreams. While the standard iPhone 15 models will feature an island display, the Pro and Pro Max displays will be manufactured using a new technology: low-pressure injection molding, or what Apple internally calls "LIPO."
The new process reduces the size of the bezel around the display to 1.5 millimeters (the current iPhone's bezel measures about 2.2 millimeters). LIPO was first used on the Apple Watch Series 7, allowing the device to have narrower bezels and increasing the size of the display. As far as I know, Apple eventually plans to bring this feature to the iPad as well.
It is reported that Apple is developing a new iPad Pro, but it may not be able to use LIPO technology for the time being. Still, Bloomberg’s report suggests that Apple is working on the same visual overhaul for the iPad sometime in the future, with significantly smaller bezels.
