Apple’s macOS Ventura is expected to launch in the last week of October

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release macOS Ventura with iPadOS 16 the week of Oct. 24. In his latest newsletter, Gurman said the first version of macOS Ventura adds support for the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which are These models are expected to be released in the “near future.

Gurman said the new MacBook Pro models will offer M2 Pro and M2 Max chip options, but other changes will be minimal.

While he expects a new iPad Pro model with the M2 chip to be announced “within a few days,” Gurman said it’s unlikely the new MacBook Pro will be released with the next iPad Pro. Instead, he said a new MacBook Pro is “expected in the near future,” noting that Apple often introduces new Macs in November, such as the initial 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 and the first Macs with M1 chips in 2020.

Gurman reiterated that Apple is working on a Mac mini with the M2 chip and that Apple last updated the Mac mini with the M1 chip in 2020, while it also continues to sell high-priced Intel configurations with Core i5 and Core i7 processor options.

Traditionally, Apple has held big events in the late fall for its iPad and Mac updates, but this year’s rollout will be more low-key. As we’ve reported before, Apple still isn’t planning an offline or online launch event for October this year, with all product updates being released via press releases.

The reason Apple is forgoing a launch event is that the nature of these product upgrades are routine updates that amount to a bump in specs and retain previous designs, and on the other hand, Apple may be building up marketing energy for the Reality Pro headset that will debut next year.

Apple’s software engineering chief Craig Federighi and marketing chief Greg Joswiak will speak at a WSJ Tech Live event on the evening of Oct. 25. Federighi and Joswiak will likely discuss macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16.

iOS 16.1 will likely launch alongside iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura, offering many new features for the iPhone, including real-time activity in third-party apps.
