Most tipsters believe that Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro models will support a rest screen display that will allow users to view as well as browse information without having to tap to wake up the screen.

In the latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman said that the feature will include a new lock screen widget that supports iOS 16, which can be used for weather, fitness and more.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro will support AOD rest screen display to easily display the new lock screen widget for iOS 16

Gurman wrote: “Like Apple Watch, iPhone 14 Pro will be able to display widgets for weather, calendar, stocks, events and other data while the screen remains low in brightness and frame rate,” and “will offer users the same a new feature — avoiding sensitive data from appearing on the lock screen to prevent others from seeing it.”

The AOD may also display things like the time, date and unread notifications.

IT House has learned that Apple has used AOD display mode since the Apple Watch Series 5, as the industry believes Apple will likely let users enable or disable the iPhone 14 Pro’s AOD always-on display mode through the Settings app.

As Gurman mentioned, the iPhone 14 Pro’s AOD feature combines “lower brightness” and “lower refresh rate” to extend battery life. It’s also worth noting that Apple introduced ProMotion on the iPhone 13 Pro model, which allows the screen to drop to 10Hz when idle to save power.

Not surprisingly, Apple will likely release the iPhone 14 series around September as it has in previous years, but only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to have ProMotion and AOD, but this flagship feature will certainly be brought down to the standard models in some future year as well.

Gurman also said that Apple is planning a new Mac mini with the M2 Pro chip, a new Apple TV with the A14 chip, a revamped HomePod, and more.
