Apple will import Micro LED technology, and Apple Watch 2024 first equipped

TrendForce today released a report saying that Apple will introduce Micro LED technology in consumer electronics, with the Apple Watch expected to be the first to be equipped in 2024.

According to the report, the new Apple Watch in 2024 will be a breakthrough in the introduction of Micro LED as a display technology. In addition to expanding the display size to more than 2 inches again, we can expect the brightness specifications to increase to meet the requirements of outdoor sports enthusiasts and professionals.

TrendForce believes that Micro LED technology will be introduced in other Apple products after 2024. Benefiting from Apple’s pioneering application, the application of Micro LED technology will have the opportunity to expand to AR glasses, cell phones, car displays and other devices in 2026-2030.

When it comes to Apple’s delay in entering the OLED folding cell phone field, TrendForce said that one of the possible reasons why Apple has not yet entered the folding OLED field is that Micro LED technology can flexibly match glass, CMOS and other rigid substrates, and also has a very good match in PI and other flexible substrates. Therefore, Micro LED may become the display technology for iPhone products to enter folding, scrolling, or even extended display in the future, which can become another key technology for Apple to achieve product innovation and overtake other brands.
