Apple today pushed the watchOS 9 Developer Preview Beta 3 update (internal version number: 20R5316f) to Apple Watch users, 14 days after the last release.
To update to the new software, Apple Watch needs to have a 50 percent battery charge, must be on a charger, and must be in range of an iPhone.
watchOS 9 introduces four new dials, including Moon Phase, Happy Hour, Metropolis, and Astronomy, in addition to enhanced modernization features for several of the most iconic dials. the ECG ECG app now supports the Atrial Fibrillation History feature, giving users more insight into their health by obtaining important information such as the heart rhythm showing the predicted frequency of signs of atrial fibrillation. Users will receive weekly notifications about the frequency of atrial fibrillation and can view a detailed history in the Health App, including lifestyle factors that may affect atrial fibrillation, such as sleep, alcohol intake and exercise.
Sleep tracking now includes sleep stages to give users more insight into their sleep. Apple Watch detects whether a user is in a period of rapid eye movement sleep, core sleep or deep sleep using signals from the acceleration sensor and heart rate sensor. Users will see sleep stage data in the Sleep App on Apple Watch, see more details such as sleep duration, and see additional metrics such as heart rate and breathing rate in the Sleep Comparison Chart in the iPhone Health App.
Apple has added a Medication App that helps users manage and track the medications, vitamins and supplements they take by allowing them to create medication lists, create schedules and reminders, and view medication information in the Health App. Users can create personalized schedules for each medication and set reminders to help guide them in taking their medications.
Physical Training App update adds custom workouts and improvements for runners, triathletes and swimming. fitness+ workouts now support streaming to certain third-party smart TVs. In watchOS 9, notifications have been redesigned to be less intrusive, yet still effective, with a new compact banner that displays when Apple Watch is being used.
Other new features include the CallKit API that allows VOIP calls to be answered on Apple Watch, Apple Watch Mirroring mirroring for controlling Apple Watch from iPhone, more quick actions with “pinch twice” gestures, and updates to the Reminders and Calendar apps. and updates to the Reminders and Calendar apps.
