Apple wants India to account for 25 percent of its production, up from the current 5-7 percent,” said Piyush Goyal, India’s trade minister, at a meeting on Monday.
“Apple, another success story,” Piyush Goyal said, “they already make about 5-7% of their products in India. If I remember correctly, they are aiming to increase that to 25 per cent. Most of their new launches are from India and are made in India.”
In fact, Apple has been betting heavily on India since it started assembling iPhones in the country through Wistron in 2017, and has since partnered further with Foxconn in line with the Indian government’s policy of promoting local manufacturing.

India’s electronics and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted on Monday that Apple’s exports in India reached $1 billion last December.
J.P. Morgan analysts predicted last year that a quarter of Apple’s products would be made outside of China by 2025, compared to the current 5 percent.
