Apple is reportedly working on the M2 and M2 Pro edition instead of releasing a new Mac mini with an M1 Pro chip as planned. In 2020, Apple released the first M1 chip in its current Mac mini. Numerous rumours have suggested that the new device could be powered by the M2 or M2 Pro, and it has long been expected that the company will upgrade the device with the new Apple silicon.
M2 and M2 Pro Mac Mini coming soon?
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claimed in the most recent edition of his weekly newsletter that Apple had been working on the M1 Pro-powered Mac mini that was scheduled to debut later this year or at the beginning of 2023. However, it appears that the company has abandoned those plans in favour of concentrating solely on Mac mini devices powered by the M2 and M2 Pro.
Gurman gave a few additional details about the upcoming gadgets, but in a previous newsletter in June, he mentioned that the M2 and M2 Pro-powered Mac minis are still in the early stages of development, indicating that it might be some time before they are made available to the general public.

The M2 chip will power the new Mac mini, which has the codename J473. Contrarily, the M2 Pro Max mini, code-named J474, will have four effective CPU cores and eight performance cores. They have also stated that Apple has no plans to release a Mac mini model equipped with the M2 Max or Ultra chips; these will likely be reserved for the Mac Pro.
