macOS Ventura introduces a new feature for front-of-the-stage scheduling that lets Mac users focus on one task while keeping other apps ready to easily switch between tasks. The update supports Continuous Interoperable Camera, which allows an iPhone to be used as a webcam for the Mac. Interoperable Camera brings a number of innovative features to all Mac computers, including People Centering and Portrait modes and new Studio Lighting, which dims the background and focuses light on the user’s face for optimized results. In addition, the Continuous Interoperability Camera leverages the iPhone’s ultra-wide angle camera for Desktop View, which shows both the user’s face and a top view of the desk surface, making it ideal for creative work such as creating craft videos and displaying hand-drawn artwork on the FaceTime Call App.
The FaceTime Call App is also now available with Relay, which allows users to start a FaceTime call on one Apple device and then seamlessly switch to another nearby Apple device to continue the call. You can start a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad and then switch it to your Mac with a single tap, or start a call on your Mac and switch it to your iPhone or iPad when you need to leave your seat.
The Messages App for Mac now allows you to edit or undo messages you’ve just sent, mark messages as unread, and even restore accidentally deleted messages. Users can also use the Messages App to add same-cast sharing directly to their Mac, sharing a synchronized experience while chatting.
With the new Mail app, users can also schedule emails and even unsend them within 10s of tapping the Send button, and the Weather and Clock apps are now available on the Mac. System Preferences has been rebranded as System Settings with a new streamlined design and an easier navigation that iPhone and iPad users can get up and running in no time.
Safari supports shared tab groups and Apple is working on passkeys, a next-generation authentication alternative to passwords. spotlight gets an update and iCloud shared libraries get new features. macOS Ventura includes Metal 3 to deliver better graphics performance in games.
