Financial data show that Apple’s MacBook foundry Quanta’s revenue in January 2023 will be NT$90.071 billion (currently approximately RMB 20.266 billion), a decrease of 15.3% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 10.6%.
Quanta said it shipped 3.1 million notebooks in January, a 27.9% decrease from the 4.3 million shipped in December 2022. In addition, the first quarter is a traditional seasonal low season, and shipments of notebook computers will decline compared with the fourth quarter of last year.
The industry expects that notebook computer manufacturers’ shipments in the first quarter usually decrease by 15% to 20% quarter-on-quarter. Due to the high proportion of consumer notebook computers, Quanta expects that the quarter-on-quarter decrease may fall by about 20%.
In comparison, Quanta’s revenue in 2022 will be NT$1.28 trillion (currently approximately RMB 288 billion), a year-on-year increase of 13.47%. Revenue in December was NT$106.329 billion (currently approximately RMB 23.924 billion), a decrease of 5.1% month-on-month and a decrease of 14.8% year-on-year.
Looking forward to this quarter, Quanta previously stated that the first quarter is the traditional off-season, coupled with fewer working days, according to past practice, the average quarter-on-quarter decrease in first-quarter shipments reached double digits. Due to the high base period in the first quarter of last year, notebook shipments are also expected to decrease year-on-year in the current quarter.
