With Lionel Messi joining Major League Soccer (MLS), MLS Season Pass subscriptions have more than doubled, and Apple is taking advantage of this to develop a number of documentaries for the streaming service Apple TV+.
It is obtained that Apple’s first Lionel Messi documentary project was announced in June, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of Lionel Messi. Filmed in Paris, Qatar and Argentina, the episodes follow the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner as he makes five FIFA World Cup appearances and wins the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Apple is working on another documentary about Lionel Messi’s move to the U.S., according to Bloomberg. Both projects are being produced by Smuggler Entertainment and will include exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from Lionel Messi himself. The projects are currently untitled and release dates have yet to be announced. There will be four World Cup series documentaries and six MLS series documentaries.
Apple TV+ has production deals with Nike, Meadowlark, and other brands to produce sports-related TV shows and movies.
