Apple is developing iPad-based smart display: control smart home, FaceTime chat, and more

Apple is designing a new display for smart home management, according to Bloomberg. The device will be a low-end iPad that can be used to control HomeKit devices, stream video, FaceTime calls and more.

The device is designed to be mounted on a wall or other object using magnetic fasteners, so it’s more integrated into the home than the iPad. This product will compete with devices like MetaPortal or Amazon EchoShow.

Bloomberg previously said the device was similar to a HomePod and Apple TV combined for home use rather than on the go. Apple is also considering a larger smart home display device and is developing a product that combines Apple TV, smart speakers and a FaceTime camera, but the project has suffered a setback.

Apple’s goal is to launch an iPad-like smart home display in 2024.
