Apple iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max will feature new solid-state unified volume button

Multiple revelations suggest that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will undergo some design changes, and the volume control on the side of the device may be a solid unified or single button.

YouTube blogger ZoneOfTech noted on Twitter that Apple typically uses two pins to connect a single button to the chassis, but in a new render based on a leaked iPhone 15 Pro CAD drawing, only two pins are shown where the volume buttons would normally be. in a single notch. In contrast, CAD-based renderings of the iPhone 15 Standard Edition show two separate sockets with a total of four pins.

In the process of making an iPhone 15 Pro concept machine based on a leaked CAD, ZoneOfTech has been “100% sure” that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature a long, unified volume button rather than two separate buttons. Additionally, ZoneOfTech similarly determined that “the mute switch will also be replaced with a single button instead of the current up and down switch.”

Rumor has it that Apple is using solid-state buttons with haptic feedback for the power and volume controls on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models, and it’s starting to look like an all-in-one solid-state volume button that will detect the top touch (“up” ) and bottom (“down”) end, with a haptic mute button replacing the classic switch.

It is unclear how the new tactile buttons will work through the case, especially if they require direct touch contact. Likewise, solutions will be needed to accommodate device recovery in cases where the iPhone may not work as expected. On the bright side, solid-state button technology improves dust and water resistance because it doesn’t require a physical press mechanism, but it does require additional hardware inside the iPhone to provide support. Similar to the touch-press Home button introduced with the iPhone 7.

Sources say Apple will add two additional Taptic Engines to support the solid-state buttons in the iPhone 15 Pro model (current iPhone models have only one Taptic Engine for haptic feedback), while the iPhone 15 standard model is expected to retain the physical mechanical buttons.

The first iPhone phones had an external unified volume button or a long button with raised ends. This button design was retained on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. For the iPhone 4, the long button was replaced by two round buttons, which eventually became longer, separate pill-shaped buttons on the iPhone 6 series. The pill-shaped variant continued on to the iPhone 14 series of phones.

Citing a source, 9to5Mac confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a unified volume button, as well as a “press to mute” button — instead of a paragraph switch.

According to leaked renders, the most notable change in this year’s iPhone 15 lineup is the switch from the Lightning port to USB-C, which will mark a significant departure from the Apple proprietary connector that has been used on the iPhone and most Apple accessories since 2012.

The iPhone 15 Series phones will feature a new design with slightly curved edges, along with a larger camera bump and narrower display bezels. Apple will keep the same four sizes as in the current iPhone 14 series for the new models. However, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will ditch the bangs screen in favor of the Lingering Island.
