DSCC CEO and well-known display industry analyst Ross Young recently said that iPhone 14 Plus panel shipments in December were close to zero. Compared with the iPhone 13 lineup in 2021, Apple’s overall display procurement in the supply chain for iPhone 14 in 2022 is expected to grow by 10 percent.
This is largely due to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which, as previously reported, outsold the two Pro models over the two iPhone 13 Pro models. This has also led to an increase in the average selling price of the iPhone 14 series, a metric that Apple relies on when reporting earnings to investors.
The iPhone 14 Series panel purchases in 2022 are up 10 percent over the iPhone 13 Series in 2021, despite a 9 percent decline in the smartphone market. The blended ASP for these devices is also up 10 percent, with 14 Pro / Pro Max accounting for 64 percent of the share and 13 Pro / Max accounting for 51 percent.
It’s not surprising that iPhone 14 Plus panel shipments were “near zero” in December. A previous report said that Apple had actually halted production of the device to better align production with demand. However, despite lower-than-expected demand, Apple is reportedly still planning to launch the iPhone 15 Plus next year.
