Apple iPhone 14 C91M connector may be last generation of Lightning cable

According to charginghead.com, Apple’s original C-L data cable for the iPhone 14 has switched connectors from C94 to C91M.

The new C91M cable reportedly has the same component layout as the old C94 and no significant difference in fast charging performance. ChargingHeads.com says that Apple may have replaced the C91M connector for anti-counterfeiting reasons.

The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of making USB-C mandatory as a universal charging port for all types of consumer electronic devices, including iPhones and AirPods, by the end of 2024. This could mean that the new C91M cable could be the last generation of Lightning cables from Apple.

The new European Parliament regulation states that USB type-C will be the standard charging port for smartphones, tablets, e-readers, keyboards, computer mice, GPS devices, digital cameras, headphones, handheld video game consoles and portable speakers sold in the EU from autumn 2024. From 2026 onwards, USB-C will also be the standard port for laptop chargers.
