Apple iPadOS 18 will stop supporting some older iPad models

According to the latest news, iOS 18 will continue to be compatible with all devices that support iOS 17. However, for iPadOS 18, Apple plans to discontinue support for some older iPad models.

Similar rumors first surfaced last month, with sources at the time posting the information and quickly deleting it, raising questions about its credibility. According to 9to5mac, a private social media account with a good track record today shared a more reliable rumor, listing a list of devices that will be compatible with iOS 18:

iPhone 15 series (including regular version, Plus version, Pro version and Pro Max version)

iPhone 14 series (including regular version, Plus version, Pro version and Pro Max version)

iPhone 13 series (including regular version, mini version, Pro version and Pro Max version)

iPhone 12 series (including regular version, mini version, Pro version and Pro Max version)

iPhone 11 series (including regular version, Pro version and Pro Max version)

iPhone XS series (including XS and XS Max)

iPhone XR

iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

It’s worth noting that this list is exactly the same as the iOS 17 compatible devices list. The news isn’t so good for iPad users, however. The account revealed that iPadOS 18 will stop supporting the following devices:

iPad (6th generation)

iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation)

iPad Pro (10.5 inches)

In addition to the above models, iPadOS 18 will be compatible with all devices that support iPadOS 17, including iPads (7th generation) released in 2019 and using the A10 Fusion chip.

iPadOS 18 compatible devices:

iPad: 2019 and newer

iPad mini: 2019 and newer

iPad Air: 2019 and newer

iPad Pro: 2018 and newer

It is noticed that there are some puzzling points in this list. iPad Pro (10.5-inch) and iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation) are both equipped with A10X Fusion chip, but are not included in the compatibility list of iPadOS 18. iPads (7th generation) using the A10 Fusion chip can be upgraded to iPadOS 18.
