On October 25 that in addition to iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, macOS 13 Ventura, tvOS 16.1 and watchOS 9.1, Apple today also released a new version of its HomePod and HomePod mini software, version 16.1 (20K71).
The 16.1 version of the HomePod software includes support for the Matter smart home connectivity standard, according to Apple’s release notes.
“Software v16.1 adds support for the new smart home connectivity standard Matter, which allows a wide range of smart home accessories to work together across the ecosystem. This update also includes performance and stability enhancements.”
The HomePod software will automatically install on the HomePod smart speaker unless the feature is disabled, but users can also check for updates manually in the Home family app.
