According to DigiTimes latest report, the TSMC factory is currently promoting the N3E process mass production, and plans to replace the N3 process in 2024, the report also pointed out that this year’s 3nm chip sales will reach 4-6% of the amount of up to 3.4 billion U.S. dollars (currently about RMB 24.854 billion).
Sources say Apple is the largest customer for TSMC’s N3E process, which is planned to equip the iPhone 16 models to be launched next year.
The upcoming N3E builds on the N3B (3nm) process used by Apple to equip the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models with the A17 Pro chip, which further cuts costs, improves yields, and enhances chip performance and power efficiency.
DiGiTimes believes TSMC has already begun mass production of the N3E process and plans to fully transition to it next year. Industry giants other than Samsung will adopt the N3E process. Apple has become TSMC’s most important customer and has confirmed order commitments.
Earlier this year, Apple received nearly 90% of TSMC’s 3nm chip capacity. The latest news is that Apple expects to have access to 100% of TSMC’s production capacity by 2023 due to Intel’s adjustment of its CPU design schedule.
