Apple Explains HomePod 2nd Generation: Breakthrough Sound Quality and Smart Experience

Apple officially announced the new HomePod this evening, priced at RMB 2299, and will go on sale today, February 3 (Friday).

Apple officially said that the new HomePod “brings breakthrough sound quality and intelligent experience”, presenting outstanding sound quality, enhanced Siri features and a safe and secure smart home experience.

The HomePod (second generation) supports iPhone SE (second generation) and subsequent models running iOS 16.3 or later, or iPhone 8 and subsequent models. Currently, Apple’s official detailed explanation is also here, let’s take a look together.

HomePod brings together a number of Apple innovations and Siri intelligence to deliver advanced computational audio technology and support for immersive spatial audio tracks for an unprecedented listening experience. HomePod is a new way to create smart home automation with Siri, get notifications when smoke or carbon monoxide alarms are triggered in your home, or check the temperature and humidity in a room – all without having to do anything.

The new HomePod is available to order online and through the Apple Store App starting today and will be available for purchase starting Friday, February 3.

“With our professional audio technology and innovations, the new HomePod delivers deep, rich bass, natural mids and clear, detailed highs.” With the popularity of HomePod mini, we’re seeing increased interest in a larger, more acoustically powerful HomePod,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. We’re excited to bring the next generation of HomePod to customers around the world.”

Beautiful design

The new HomePod’s exterior consists of a seamless, sound-transparent mesh and a backlit touchpad, with a beautiful design that complements a variety of spaces. HomePod is available in white and a new midnight color, which is constructed of 100 percent recycled fabric and features a woven power cord in the same color.

Powerful acoustic performance

HomePod delivers exceptional sound quality, with deep, rich bass and stunning high frequencies. The S7 chip combines software and system sensing technology to deliver more advanced computational audio, bringing the full potential of the acoustic system to life for an unprecedented listening experience. High-amplitude woofers, powerful motors, a built-in bass equalizer microphone, and a beamforming five-tweeter array combine to create a powerful acoustic experience.
Using room space sensing technology, HomePod recognizes sound reflecting off nearby surfaces, determines proximity to surfaces like walls, and adjusts audio in real-time. a beamforming array of five tweeters uses precise pointing control to separate and direct and ambient sound, allowing users to revel in crystal clear vocals and beautiful instrumental sounds.

Users can listen to tens of millions of songs from the Apple Music library and enjoy spatial audio with a single HomePod or in a stereo combination with two HomePods. With Siri, users can learn about all kinds of music and search for music by artist, song, lyrics, decade, genre, mood or event.

Multiple HomePods for an even better experience

Two and more HomePods or HomePod mini unlock a range of powerful features. With spaced play technology that supports multi-room audio, users can play the same song on multiple HomePods, play different songs on different HomePods, or even broadcast from multiple HomePods by simply saying “Hey Siri” or touching and holding the top of the HomePod to send a message to each room.

Users can also put two HomePods together to form a stereo combo. The stereo combo not only separates the left and right channels but also plays dual-channel audio in harmony, creating a wider, more immersive soundstage than traditional stereo speakers for a superior listening experience.

Seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem.

With ultra-wideband technology, users can transfer any sound playing on their iPhone – such as favorite songs, podcasts, or even calls – directly to HomePod. Anyone in the room can hold their iPhone near HomePod and play suggestions automatically appear on the iPhone screen, making it easy to control audio playback or get personalized song and podcast recommendations. HomePod also recognizes the voices of up to six users, making it easy for all family members to listen to private song lists and set reminders and calendars.

HomePod’s “Find” feature lets you locate Apple devices like iPhones by letting the sound of a missing device play. Users can also ask Siri for the location of a friend or family member (which requires the person to share their location in the Find app).

A smart home essential

With sound recognition, HomePod can hear smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, recognize them and send notifications directly to the user’s iPhone. New built-in temperature and humidity sensors measure the indoor environment and let users set up automated actions, such as closing the curtains or turning on a fan when the room reaches a certain temperature.

With Siri, customers can control a single device hands-free, or create scenarios such as having multiple smart home devices start working at the same time in the morning, or set up recurring automation such as “Hey Siri, open the curtains at sunrise every morning. When users use Siri to control accessories such as the heater that can’t be distinguished by the naked eye, or to control accessories located in different rooms, HomePod will emit a new confirmation sound. Remastered ambient sounds such as the ocean, forest and rain will be further integrated into the experience, allowing customers to add new sounds to scenes, automation and alarms.

Users can also intuitively control, view and manage accessories in the redesigned Home App. The Home App offers new categories such as “Environment,” “Lights” and “Security,” and provides a new multi-camera view that allows users to easily set up and control their smart homes.

Matter Support

Launched last fall, the Matter connectivity standard ensures that smart home products maintain the highest level of security when working across ecosystems. Apple is a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, which works with other industry leaders to maintain the Matter smart home connectivity standard. HomePod can connect HomePod connects to and supports Matter’s accessories and acts as a home hub, allowing users to control remotely while on the go.

Customer data is private property.

Protecting customer privacy has always been a core value of Apple. End-to-end encryption is maintained for all communications between smart home devices, including content recorded by HomeKit security video cameras, which cannot be read by Apple. When using Siri, the requested audio is not stored by default. These features ensure that the privacy of your home is protected.

HomePod and the environment.

HomePod is committed to minimizing its environmental impact by using 100 percent recycled gold in the plating of several printed circuit boards (a first for HomePod) and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in the speaker magnets. PVC) and beryllium. Redesigned packaging materials eliminate the use of plastic outer film and 96 percent of packaging materials are fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from the packaging by the end of 2025.

Apple has already achieved carbon neutrality in its global operations and plans to achieve 100 percent carbon neutrality across its supply chain and all product lifecycles by 2030. That means every Apple device sold – from parts manufacturing, assembly, shipping, user use and charging, through device and material recycling – will have a net zero climate impact.
