Two Apple executives, Kate Bergeron, Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering, and Laura Metz of Apple’s Mac product marketing team, recently accepted an interview with Tom’s Guide media Mark Spoonauer.
According to media reports, the main interview contents are as follows:
How did Apple decide to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air?
Laura Metz responded:
Our research shows that 15-inch models are also very popular with consumers in the mainstream PC notebook market.
Our research shows that some of our customers want a larger screen but don't necessarily need MacBook Pro-level performance. The maturity of Apple Silicon chips has brought great opportunities.
About Thickness
Kate Bergeron said that the original goal was to make the 15-inch MacBook Air as thick as the 13-inch MacBook Air at 11.3 mm, but it ended up being 11.5 mm due to various factors.
He says one of the big things the team really needs to focus on is reliability and durability for large screen sizes. LCDs require truly structurally sound displays. So we use structural adhesives to attach the panel to the chassis we call the display enclosure.
Durability:
Bergeron said there were many challenges in creating the world’s thinnest 15-inch notebook.
Engineering challenges are much more difficult than most people imagine. We made sure it was tough and durable and really presented the level of apple quality everyone expects from us.
