Apple’s iPhone 14 / Pro series (except iPhone 14 Plus), Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch SE 2, AirPods Pro 2 headphones and other new products are now available for sale.
Earlier this month, Apple quietly made some changes to its AppleCare+ program, extending the warranty period for Apple products and adding coverage for accidental damage. While AppleCare+ previously provided coverage for accidental damage twice a year, Apple now says repairs are “unlimited.
Recently, Apple began sending emails to AppleCare+ customers to remind them of the change.
This email from Apple re-emphasizes that devices covered by the AppleCare+ program can now be repaired for accidental damage an unlimited number of times, instead of just twice every 12 months. Of course, this is only supported while the subscription plan is in effect.
Apple also said that the extra protection comes at “no additional charge” and that customers don’t have to do anything to get unlimited protection against accidental damage.
"Now your AppleCare+ plan protects covered devices from unlimited incidents of accidental damage while the plan is in effect (instead of twice every 12 months support). Each event is subject to the applicable service fee. There is no additional charge for this extra protection, and users don't have to do anything."
However, it’s unclear if Apple is serious about “unlimited repairs” or if the company has actual limits on how much it can prevent abuse.
Apple AppleCare+ prices vary by device, and customers can choose to pay monthly or at full price. For iPhone 14, AppleCare+ costs $9.99 per month or $199 for the full price. It’s important to note that even with an AppleCare+ subscription, customers will still need to pay Apple for service if their device needs repair.
Every iPhone is covered by a 1-year hardware warranty and up to 90 days of free phone support under the limited warranty,” Apple’s website says. The AppleCare+ service plan for iPhone extends your coverage and provides unlimited accidental damage coverage for a fee of RMB 188 for screen or glass back damage and RMB 628 for other accidental damage.”
Apple also has a more expensive AppleCare+ plan that covers theft and loss. While this plan has also been upgraded to unlimited repairs, it still only covers up to two incidents of theft or loss per year.
