This Thursday, OpenAI officially launched the iOS version of the ChatGPT application in the Apple App Store. Now it appears that Apple is working on a similar technology.
Apple has restricted the use of ChatGPT and other external artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and the company is developing its own similar technology, according to a document seen by The Wall Street Journal and sources familiar with the matter.
In the first three weeks of May alone, Apple added 28 new AI-focused positions, covering senior engineers, research scientists, special project managers, and more. The company hopes to use the power of generative artificial intelligence to “transform Apple’s mobile computing platform,” transforming the iPhone and iPad.
On the most recent quarterly earnings call, Tim Cook expressed some concerns about progress in the field of generative AI. He believes that although AI is very interesting, it also has many problems that need to be solved at present, and the deployment of AI needs to be thoughtful and thoughtful. He said Apple believes AI is “great” and will continue to invest in related technologies for its products.
As of press time, Apple is currently recruiting 87 positions with “artificial intelligence” in their titles, of which more than 1/3 are new positions created this month, of which 48 (more than 1/2) are in March 2023 newly established. In addition, Apple is also testing a new natural language generation feature for Siri, and the latest job listings include similar jobs.
The variety, volume, and progress of these new AI job listings is a testament not only to Apple’s work on natural language AI capabilities but also generative AI that can be applied across platforms and services in a variety of ways. Judging by the job postings, most of the new AI jobs are in Cupertino, but there are also some in San Diego, Austin, Seattle and elsewhere.
