Apple confirms iPad no longer used as Home Hub

Apple confirms iPad will no longer serve as home. Apple today confirmed that the iPad will no longer serve as a Home Hub when iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and HomePod 16 software launch this fall. With Apple no longer supporting the iPad as a Home Hub, users will only be able to use it as a hub through a HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV.

As MacRumors contributor Steve Moser discovered in the iOS 16 code, Apple says it will no longer support the iPad as a home hub. This information will show up in the Home app after the update to iOS 16.

Apple’s iOS 16 preview page indicated that the iPad would not be able to be used as a home hub, but this was not confirmed until now, as in the first iPadOS 16 beta, iPad can still be set up as a home hub. “Only Apple TV and HomePod are supported as home hubs,” the site reads.
