Apple chip designer: plans to upgrade chips for Mac every year, will not take the toothpaste approach

Apple chip designer Tim Miller recently said in an interview with foreign technology media TechCrunch, the future of the Mac will upgrade the chip every year, at least the release cycle is close to an annual update.

The main content of the interview is as follows: Tim Millet believes that Apple’s introduction of the M1 chip is a new chapter for Apple to turn the Mac.

Tim Millet has worked in the chip manufacturing field for more than 30 years and has been with Apple for nearly 17 years. He says the M1 chip is a chance for Apple to see “real success”.

Tim Millet says it won’t take a “toothpaste” approach to advance the M2 chip to stay ahead of the curve by pushing the limits of technology again. We’re not going to divide the 20% performance increase over a 3-year period, we’re going to work hard to achieve that in 1 year.

Tim Millet says the integration of hardware and software delivers a superior experience for Mac users. Whether it’s the speed of video encoding or the maximum performance of a fanless MacBook Air, the Mac is backed by chips that provide excellent system and software support.

Tim Millet also acknowledged the current gaming gap in Apple Silicon chips. He said Apple will not use the tagline “Mac is a great gaming platform” in its communications, but Apple will continue to improve Apple Silicon’s gaming performance in the future.
