Bloomberg– Apple Inc. is building a live TV ad network in preparation for streaming Major League Soccer (English: Major League Soccer, abbreviation: MLS) games, Bloomberg reports. As part of the deal with MLS, Apple has agreed to expand its advertising.
In June Apple announced a 10-year partnership with Major League Soccer that will see all games streamed through the Apple TV app starting in 2023. Apple is now in discussions with advertising partners and MLS sponsors for ads to be shown during games and related programming.
Ads will be available on all three Apple TV subscription tiers, including dedicated packages, paid TV + subscriptions and the free TV app.
Bloomberg said the ads for live TV are part of Apple’s aggressive push into the advertising business. Apple recently added new ads to the App Store Today tab and individual app pages, a move unpopular with developers because of the types of ads Apple chooses to display.
Apple is also working on a plan to add search ads to the Apple Maps app on the iPhone starting next year, which will show up when users search for content. Apple is also exploring ads for other apps and services, Bloomberg said.
Apple’s advertising business currently generates about $4 billion (about 29.24 billion yuan) in revenue annually, but the company aims to push it to at least $10 billion (about 73.1 billion yuan) a year.
