According to Taiwan’s “Economic Daily”, due to insufficient supply of the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple asked the second largest mobile phone foundry, Pegatron, to join in production to alleviate the shortage of new phones. A large number of products were produced in late December. This is also the first time that Pegatron has won an OEM order for high-end iPhone models.
The high-end iPhones were previously assembled exclusively by Hon Hai, and Pegatron could only share orders for entry-level models and some special models. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously stated that Apple is discussing with Pegatron and Luxshare Precision the possibility of converting the iPhone 14/14 Plus production line to produce the iPhone 14 Pro/14 Pro Max.
Regarding the relevant rumors, Pegatron Tong Zixian did not respond positively but only emphasized that “let them calm down first”; as for whether there is a demand for new orders, he stated that “the customer’s request is that you stick to your posts and don’t run around. Operate well.”
Although Tong Zixian kept a low profile, foreign investors indicated that the average capacity utilization rate of Hon Hai’s Zhengzhou plant was only 20% in November, and it is expected to increase to 30% to 40% in December; and Pegatron and Luxshare have obtained contracts from Hon Hai 10% of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max orders will be shipped in large quantities as soon as late December.
In addition, foreign investors believe that Apple will diversify supply risks, and it may be difficult for Hon Hai to be the exclusive assembly supplier of the iPhone 15 Pro series in the future. Hon Hai declined to comment on this.
Regarding the new iPhone 15 series that Apple may launch next year, Pegatron Tong Zixian said that he is still racking his brains to imagine that “I am still busy with the mass production of this year’s products, and the personnel scheduling is too busy.
