Apple today pushed a new firmware update to AirPods Pro 2 users. This update applies to both versions of the second-generation AirPods Pro — the Lightning connector charging case version and the USB-C connector charging case version.
The firmware version number for this update for the AirPods Pro 2 is 6A303, and this update is for the AirPods Pro 2 headphones themselves. Twitter user @aaronp613 points out that Apple has also released an update specifically for the USB-C charging case.
According to Apple’s website, AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C and AirPods Pro 2 with Lightning ports are now uniformly running the same 6A303 firmware version. Previously, the USB-C charging case version of the firmware was one version behind.
The update is simple, “Fixes some bugs and other improvements.” The update comes on the heels of a slew of new features added to the AirPods Pro 2 with iOS 17 last month, including adaptive audio, session awareness, and personalized volume. Today’s update is likely to focus on improvements to those features and related bugs.
Users won’t be able to manually update their AirPods to the new firmware version; instead, the new firmware version will be installed automatically when the AirPods are connected to an iPhone via Bluetooth.
