Android 14: new backward gestures, support for AV1 decoding

The Google Android 13 version has been released, and major manufacturers are upgrading their devices to the latest system. At the same time, news of Android 14 has also arrived.

Mishaal Rahman, the senior technical editor at Esper, has delved into some of the features we can expect to see on Android 14. Rahman says that Google may introduce the predictive back gesture that is currently being tested.

As you can see in the image, the gesture will alert the user when the app exits and the back gesture will return to the desktop, allowing the user to better determine if they need to go back.

The feature is already available in Android 13’s AOSP Launcher3, but can only be enabled in the developer options, as IT House has learned.

In addition, Mishaal Rahman expects Android 14 to natively support AV1 decoding as Google rolls out the codec to more devices. In addition, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 may also support AV1 decoding, so we can expect AV1 decoding to be standard on Android flagship phones by 2023.

Google has already announced that it will introduce satellite connectivity in Android 14, a feature that is also one of the latest hot technologies that Huawei and Apple are starting to experiment with, and Google is not far behind.
