The update brings some new security features like better password support, privacy protections for dealing with suspicious data proxies, and lots of UI, customization, and runtime condition updates.
The coolest feature of the new version is a new set of customizable lock screen options. You can switch between different clock styles and formats to personalize your phone’s style.
▲ Lock Screen
In addition, Google allows users to add custom lock screen shortcuts, such as QR code scanning apps (e.g., most UIs in China support WeChat and Alipay code scanning) or Google Home apps.
▲ AI wallpaper generator
Google also introduced an AI-driven wallpaper generator. But unfortunately, this feature currently only supports the just-released Pixel 8 and 8 Pro models and is expected to be extended to other devices.
With Android 14, you’ll be able to use your fingerprint to sign in to third-party apps. Third-party apps can use Android’s new credentials manager to integrate all of a user’s sign-in routes, such as passwords and “Sign in with Google,” to simplify the sign-in experience and provide security support.
▲ Google recommends using a 6-digit PIN.
Other new features in Android 14 include better support for camera extensions, 10-bit HDR image support, and Android’s new Health Connection feature — storing health and fitness data on your device, similar to Apple’s Health app.
