Analysts predict GTA 6 will sell more than 25 million copies in the short term

Rockstar (R Star) confirmed the existence of a new generation of “GTA” games a year ago, but never more official information was revealed. However, a recent statement from Take-Two (T2) mentioned that “something big is expected to happen (from April 2024 to March 2025)”, which was seen as a hint of when GTA 6 would be released.

Recently, industry analyst Joost Van Dreunen highlighted “GTA 6” in his latest briefing, which according to him is predicted to launch with over 25 million copies and earn at least $1 billion in a short period of time (currently about RMB 7.1 billion).

It’s worth noting that, in keeping with R-Star tradition, GTA 6 may not debut on the PC platform, which means that the number of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users will largely determine the early sales of GTA 6.

To date, the PS5 has sold 38.4 million units, while Sony expects to sell more than 63 million units by the first quarter of 2024. Microsoft has not announced specific sales, but sources say that the current generation of Xbox console sales have also exceeded 20 million units. This means that by the time “GTA 6” is released, the total sales of these two consoles will probably reach 100 million units or more. By comparison, the PS3 and Xbox 360 had sold nearly 160 million units by the time GTA 5 was released.

T2’s full-year earnings forecast for fiscal year 2025 shows that net bookings for its gaming business will increase by $2.5 billion year-over-year (currently about RMB 17.75 billion). In this regard, analysts pointed out that “GTA 6” is apparently the only product that can drive such a large increase in net bookings.
