Yesterday, AMD released the 22.7.1 graphics driver, which finally solves the long-standing OpenGL performance problem of A cards. Some users tested AMD’s extremely classic RX 580 using OpenGL-based My World after updating the driver, and judging from the results, the driver update did bring excellent performance improvements.
In version 22.6.1 of the driver, the RX 5800’s frame rate fluctuated around 300 when running My World, dropping to around 200FPS when scenes were loaded.
In the new 22.7.1 version, the frame rate comes to around 550, and even when the scene is loaded, the frame rate is able to stabilize between 460 and 480.
All things considered, after the driver update, the RX 580 gained around 80% frame rate improvement when running My World, which is quite impressive.
According to AMD’s official test results, in addition to the RX 580, a graphics card that perennially stands at the top of Steam’s hardware survey, a host of cards including the RX 6950XT, RX 6800XT, and RX 6750XT were also able to bring about a 90% performance boost when running OpenGL-based games with the new drivers.
It is worth mentioning that while the OpenGL adaptation of the A card on the Windows side didn’t get on track until this version, it has maintained normal performance on Linux, which is closely related to its open source community environment.
