AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 revealed with 64 Zen4 cores

According to information found by Benchleaks, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000, codenamed “Storm Peak”, is now available in the Einstein @Home database, offering up to 64 Zen 4 cores. A chip with the OPN number “100-000000454-20_Y” was submitted to the database as “Family 25 Model 24 Stepping 1”, indicating that it is based on the Zen 4 core architecture.

According to the OPN code and its testbed, this appears to be the first product of AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs with Zen 4 core architecture.

While the database doesn’t mention specs, the CPU listed has a “processor count” of 128. Based on previous entries, these appear to be thread counts, so the CPU actually has a total of 64 Zen 4 cores.

While the chip’s core count is lower than the 96 cores on the EPYC Genoa chip, it’s probably just one of several variants. Right now we can’t tell whether the next-gen Threadripper will use the SP5/TR5 used by Genoa and Bergamo, or the SP6 socket used on the EPYC Siena CPU.

AMD EPYC Siena CPUs are optimized for lower TCO and higher performance per watt, and are available in 32-core “Zen 4” or 64-core “Zen 4C” versions. But since the chip here has 64 cores and also uses the 5nm node, it’s unlikely to be an SP6 or Zen 4C design
