AMD Ryzen 7000 series “Zen 4” desktop processors have received their first round of price cuts at leading retailer Newegg, as the company struggles to justify their launch price amid declining demand for Intel’s 13th generation Core “Raptor Lake” and PC components.
In the new pricing, the top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core/32-thread model is priced at $574, down from $700 (an 18 percent drop). The 12-core/24-thread Ryzen 9 7900X is priced at $474 (a 14 percent drop), down from $550.
The 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7700X saw a $50 price cut, bringing its price down from $400 to about $350. The 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 7600X saw a similar $50 price cut, meaning the chip can now be bought for about $250, already quite a distance below its $300 launch price.
All four SKUs face stiff competition from the 13th-gen Core SKUs that are starting to stand out in terms of price/performance, including the i9-13900K, i7-13700K and i5-13600K. The price of the Socket AM5 motherboard is another big hurdle, as it is a major contributor to the cost of the platform, which is limited to DDR5 memory only.
