AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop processor with DDR5 high-frequency memory tested

AMD has now released AGESA 1007B microcode, bringing support for higher memory frequencies to AM5 motherboards. However, foreign media tests found that AMD Ryzen 7000 processor gaming benchmarks with the latest BIOS showed no performance difference between DDR5-6200 and DDR5-7400.

According to reports, foreign media Quasarzone used the ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-E Gaming WIFI motherboard to update it to the latest 1514 BETA BIOS based on AGESA 1.0.0.7b firmware.

The memory uses a pair of Kefu DDR5 (16 GB x 2) models and runs in two configurations: DDR5-6200 (CL30-36-32-66) in 1:1 mode and DDR5-7400 (CL34-46-44-80) in 1:2 mode. The processors used for testing are AMD’s R9 7950X and R7 7800X3D.

As shown in the figure above, in the 1080p game and 1440p game tests, there is basically no difference between the DDR5-6200 and DDR5-7400 platforms, and there is even a slight performance drop on the DDR5-7400 platform.

Due to the DDR5-7400 memory running in 1:2 mode, which halves the IMC frequency, and the higher timings of higher frequency configurations, these factors may result in no improvement in-game performance. But DDR5-7400 also brings greater total bandwidth, which will be beneficial to the release of the core display performance of future desktop APUs.

According to an earlier report, AMD AM5 motherboards did not support high-frequency memory above DDR5-6200 very well before, but AMD’s latest AGESA 1007B microcode supports high-frequency memory. Now some overclockers use AMD B650E motherboards to overclock memory to DDR-9058.
