AMD Ryzen 7000 boot-up issue: takes 6.6 minutes with 128GB DDR5 memory

AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series processors were officially released a few days ago and will be available on September 27. The 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X is priced at only $699, which is $100 cheaper than the previous generation. It is easy to build a high-performance platform with DDR5 memory. Delicious. However, players who want to use the Ryzen 7000 platform should pay attention to a small problem, that is, the larger the DDR5 memory capacity, the longer the boot time, especially the first boot time.

Netizens have exposed the details of an ASRock X670E motherboard. There will be a very strange reminder on the motherboard this time, that is, the relationship between startup time and memory capacity, as shown below:

According to ASRock, the first boot time takes 100 seconds when users use 2x16GB of DDR5 memory, 200 seconds for 2x32GB of memory, 200 seconds for 4x16GB, and 400 seconds for 4x32GB, or 6.6 minutes to complete the boot.

The reason why it takes so much time may be that the larger the memory capacity, the longer the self-test trial time required for the platform to start for the first time, but this problem is still very strange, and the platform using 4x32GB memory in the past will not have such an exaggerated self-test time.

At present, this prompt appears on the ASRock motherboard. It is not 100% sure that it is ASRock’s own problem or whether the Ryzen 7000 has all of them, but the latter is obviously the most likely, and it should be AMD’s request.

Fortunately, this 400-second boot time is the first boot time, especially after clearing the CMOS, it should not be the norm, otherwise, it will be annoying to switch the machine in the future.

In addition, judging from the feedback from netizens, it is best not to fill the 4 memory slots of AMD’s Ryzen 7000 platform. The speed of 2 memory and 4 memory under dual-channel seems to be limited. I want to fill 128GB. Memory players may need to reduce the frequency, and this will have to be verified in detail after the listing.
