AMD Ryzen 5 7640U Phoenix 6-core laptop CPU scores revealed, 60% faster than 6600U

AMD’s “Phoenix-U” low-power mobile processor Ryzen 5 7640U has appeared on Geekbench.

According to AMD’s naming scheme, the “4” in the processor’s name stands for the Zen4 architecture, while the “U” confirms that it is a low-power (15-28W) processor for thin and light laptops.

As you can see from Geekbench, the processor was benchmarked on the AMD reference and validation platform called “Mayan-PHX”, but this is obviously not a retail product, and we expect the Ryzen 7040U series to wait a bit longer before it is officially released.

Geekbench confirms that the Ryzen 5 7640U is a 6-core, 12-thread CPU with 6 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L2 cache, and a base frequency of 3.5 GHz that can be boosted to 4.89 GHz.

In addition, this mobile APU comes with 8CU of Radeon 760M core graphics, which could be a 7640H(S) with a lower TDP and frequency.

Since we are not sure how the memory used in this test platform, we will briefly mention its scores below and compare it with other processors for reference only. Of course, the AMD R5 7640U is definitely faster than its predecessor, the 6600U, no matter what.

The processor’s single-core performance has improved by about 25% on average compared to its predecessor, while its multi-core performance has increased by 60% (the average single-core score of the R5 6600U included in Geekbench is about 1600 points and the multi-core score is about 5500 points). Even when compared to the R5 6600U model with the strongest multi-core performance release this processor has a 22% lead.
