According to Reuters, Amazon executives revealed that its cloud division has attracted thousands of customers to try out its services, competing with Microsoft and Google in the key field of artificial intelligence.
The company also announced new AI tools on Wednesday, including a plan to build more conversational customer service agents, access to technology from startup Cohere and a healthcare system for generating clinical notes after patient visits.
Organizations including Sony, Ryanair and Sun Life have trialled Amazon Bedrock, a service Amazon announced in April that lets businesses create applications using a range of AI models, the report said. This generative technology can generate new text, images and other content on command, said Amazon vice president Swami Sivasubramanian.
Amazon Bedrock is Amazon’s answer to Google and Microsoft’s AI services, and the two cloud competitors have developed or sold artificial intelligence that has attracted widespread public attention, such as the ChatGPT and Bard chatbots.
Amazon announced Wednesday that it wants to offer a wider range of AI models than its peers to win business, including access to newer tech from startups Anthropic and Stability AI. Amazon said its role as the largest cloud provider by revenue — which already hosts a significant amount of customers’ data — also sets it apart.
